Funding Crisis in Humla

Two of the PHASE health projects, Maila and Melcham in Humla district, the far West of Nepal, have so far been funded by an Irish charity which sees itself unable to continue the funding at previous levels.

Consequently, over 10,000 people in one of the remotest and poorest areas of Nepal may find themselves without any healthcare again. PHASE Nepal staff have been providing services in two locations, seeing about 20,000 patients in total and attending 50 home deliveries over the period of a year.

They have been saving lives on a regular basis, by treating common problems like pneumonia in children and severe dehydration form diarrhoea.

Each of the two health projects costs PHASE about 10,000 pounds a year to run.
