Financial Support

PHASE Nepal, our implementing partner, employs motivated qualified Nepali staff to deliver services and training to the most difficult to reach poor communities in Nepal. Selection is purely based on capability and motivation, which is demonstrated by the fact that - in contrast to many small NGOs in Nepal, where nepotism is rife - our staff come from different caste and ethnic groups from 10 different districts of Nepal! Furthermore, more than 95% are female, which not only gives motivated young women a chance of employment, but also helps them to be role models for girls in the villages they serve.

The largest post of our expenses are the salaries for those highly motivated staff members, even though the salaries sound very small in our terms: £ 25 a month for a nursery school teacher, or £ 96 a month for a highly qualified health worker!

A relatively small donation can make a huge difference in Nepal.

Individual toilet construction programme; if the villagers want to build and use a toilet in their houses, PHASE will help them to purchase part of the material they need.

Scholarship support for needy children through the school system for one year (stationary etc.); this will be an encouragement for the students to study well. Since there are quite a lot of scholarship programmes these days in the community, this will be targeted at the groups with lower enrolment rates. However, this will not exclude bright students from well-off families.

Health and hygiene awareness campaign; PHASE will run health and hygiene awareness campaigns with the help of local youths and schools. This could take the form of cleaning campaigns, debates in the school or motivating school children.

Refresher training for one school teacher; onsite teacher training will be provided to teachers from PHASE supported schools. The trainers will be sourced through the District Education Office or another supportive NGO.

Partial teacher support in a primary school (per month); If the community requests this support and agrees to raise part of the salary, PHASE will share up to 50% of the salary payment. .

General health training for a health worker; usually provided by doctors attached to PHASE, the costs include teaching materials and board for the health workers.

Full teacher support for Lower Secondary School (per month). This teacher support will be provided if the community contributes in any form they can to upgrade the teaching standard of the school.

Dental training for one health worker; Essential dental training  and refresher training will be provided to PHASE health workers and governmental health workers of PHASE project villages.

ANM support to the existing governmental sub-health post (per month); PHASE funds an ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife - health worker with special focus on Safe Motherhood), to work at the sub-health post for 3 days of the week and to run an outreach clinic in a different part of the village on the remaining 3 days.

Skill development training for up to 20 villagers (for example, animal husbandry, horticulture, off-season vegetable production).

Adult literacy programme for up to 25 villagers for 6 months.

Medicine and material support to the existing sub-health post and outreach clinic for one month, including transport; PHASE will replenish the medicine shortage in the sub-health post and put sufficient stock in the outreach clinic as well.

Alternative education programme for school age children who have dropped out or have never enrolled at school (one year 30 children)

Water supply system construction and refurbishment (5 taps); If there is a source nearby or if there is a malfunctioning system already in place PHASE will support the community to bring the water to the village.

Community toilet construction programme; if the community decides to build a community toilet, PHASE will buy the construction material.

School toilet / water supply system refurbishment; PHASE will support schools to refurbish or build these facilities. PHASE will not provide a complete package but will negotiate with the community how much they can do themselves, then if the remaining part of it comes within the PHASE budget limit, we will support it.
