What PHASE Does
Current PHASE Projects
The main work of PHASE Worldwide lies in our integrated village development programmes in currently seven villages in cooperation with our Nepalese sister organisation, PHASE Nepal. Our main working areas are in health service support, education development and improving livelihoods.
Two of the community health projects, those in Humla district, are mainly funded by the Nepalese Children’s Foundation, an Irish charity which works only in Humla, and has teamed up with PHASE Nepal to help with the delivery of health services there.
One further health project, in Bihi and Prok (Gorkha) is funded by the Child Welfare Scheme UK.
Together with PHASE Nepal, we are also working on a school linking project between schools in the UK and schools in Nepalese villages. We are hoping that links through letters, shared curriculum and internet links will bring great learning opportunities to pupils and teachers in both countries. We are currently piloting a link between Alderman White Language College in Nottingham and Jaldevi Secondary School in Hagam, and hope that we will be able to expand this programme in 2010.
PHASE Worldwide also works with two other Nepalese organisations:
SWAN (the Social Welfare Association of Nepal) is a small local Nepalese NGO which has worked in Narayansthan village in Baglung district for many years. SWAN has a similar working ethos to PHASE, and our support for this organisation has a long history: the trustees of PHASE worked with SWAN before PHASE was even founded! We channel UK donations for SWAN and give some technical support to their work.
The third Nepalese NGO we partner with is the NNCTR (the Nepal Network for Cancer Treatment and Research). This is a branch of the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research, an organisation that is dedicated to reducing the suffering and loss of life related to cancer in the world.
The NNCTR works on different aspects of cancer prevention, but our cooperation, which is more technical than financial, is in the field of cervical cancer prevention.
